Modern dance broke away from traditional ballet to enable an unrestricted freedom of expression and push full movement through space. This style emphasizes a whole body approach that includes balance, strength, flexibility, momentum and release. The movement & technique teach the student body, spatial and emotional awareness. The class is structured with warm up, movement on & across the floor progressing to jumps & turns and strength building combinations.
Jazz class focuses on elements of weight, sharp & fluid movement qualities, rhythm and stylization. Jazz is usually performed to popular music and requires a high energy. Elements of jazz class will include warm up with strengthening & stretching exercises and body isolations, movement across the floor progressing to jumps and turns, and finally choreography. It is recommended that beginning students take ballet class as jazz terminology and basic steps are based in ballet.
Tap dance is the creation of rhythmic sound patterns using shoes with metal tips. The class will focus on building loco-motor skills and developing balance, coordination, rhythm, musicality and syncopation. Elements of the class will include warm up, movement combinations across the floor and funky rhythm oriented choreographic combinations.
Contemporary is a style of expressive dance that is a combination of elements from modern, jazz and classical ballet technique. Dancers strive to connect their mind, body & emotions through fluid and technical dance movements. This class involves creative discovery as an individual and dancer.
Hip Hop dance refers to old & new street dance styles that evolved into pop culture, primarily performed to Hip Hop music. It includes a combination of three main elements, popping, locking and break dancing. Hip Hop class will focus on balance, coordination, rhythm and musicality beginning with warm up and moving into choreography practice. The class will help build confidence of ability, and comfort with their movement as well as develop a strong sense of individuality. Students are strongly encouraged to enroll in jazz class to help develop a stronger dance base and success in this class.
